With the aid of these scholarships, he was able to attend Furman University in Greenville, SC, where he graduated in 1989 with Bachelor of Science in Biology, and was named a Distinguished Military Graduate. Dr. Mylander served his four year Army commitment with Fort Bragg's XVIII Airborne Corps, earning his Airborne wings, and the coveted Army Ranger tab. He was decorated for service in combat during Operation Desert Storm, commanding a Field Artillery Platoon.
After completing his military service, Dr. Mylander gained admission to the Medical University of SC's College of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1997 with his Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD) degree. As a dental clinician with 25 years of experience, he provides care in all phases of general dentistry. Skilled in Crown and Bridge, Implant Restoration, CAD/CAM treatment modalities, Endodontics (root canals), Oral Surgery, Operative Dentistry, and Removable Prosthodontics (dentures and partials), he also has advanced training in Invisalign orthodontics and sedation dentistry. He maintains ACLS certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) from the American Heart Association. He explains his approach to dentistry better than anyone:
Going to the dentist is not on most people’s list of favorite things to do, but we have changed a lot of hearts and minds in that regard. Gaining a patient’s trust, getting them through their initial anxieties, and ultimately helping them achieve their dental health and appearance goals is what drives me, and what gets me out of bed in the morning. Practicing general dentistry allows me to do everything from simple fillings to root canals, crown and bridge, and oral surgery (extractions). My team and I love what we do, and the passion at Twin Rivers Dental Care is evident from the minute you walk through the door.
Dr. Mylander has been married to his wife Julie, for 27 years. Daughter Rachel and three grandchildren live in Phoenix, AZ. He is an avid sailor, photographer, SCUBA diver, motorcyclist, and travel/history buff, who could not be happier calling Eastern NC home along with three birds, three rescue dogs, and one rescue cat.
